Informational texts and literature to accompany Mildred D. Taylor's Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
Set in Mississippi during the Depression, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry follows Cassie Logan, a 9-year-old African American girl, and her family as they struggle against discrimination and violence. Through a year in the life of this family, Taylor illustrates the need for independence, the power of familial love, and the devastating effects of racism. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry won the Newbery Medal in 1977.
