Why Take Notes?
Great teachers know that note-taking is an important activity for the classroom; it increases students' long-term comprehension, supports executive functioning, and connects well with other key classroom strategies. Some studies have even shown that good note-taking practice can support increases on student test scores. The concept of taking notes is an important life skill, useful in college and career, and we should explicitly teach how to take notes and have students practice it in multiple ways.
Note-Taking Graphic Organizers
To support these best practices, ThinkCERCA has developed three note-taking graphic organizers and associated teacher guides for note-taking strategies. You can incorporate the use of these resources during ThinkCERCA's Direct Instruction lessons, in the Summarizing step of our Writing Lessons, or even outside of ThinkCERCA.
